Emergence at Compound YV (2023)
Borrowing inspiration from bell hooks, Emergence seeks to “[identify] the spaces where we begin the process of revision.” In these spaces, the artists invite us into explorations of identity and history as shaped by objects in their surrounding worlds, as they, in turn, shape the emergence of new paths. Shown at Compound YV Gallery, September 2023. Co-curated by Elena Yu & Caroline Partamian.
Home, House (2023)
Place, Space (2023)
As a child of immigrants, like many children of immigrants, we exist in in-between places. Home is a nebulous and undefined feeling. Over the past three years, I have been creating a home where I can exist safely and find stability. Through this process, I have learned to find expansion in the in-between. Its lack of definition allows for anything and everything to come into existence. There are no defined rules, no bounds, rituals or traditions. There is no history in in-between spaces. It’s being created and destroyed simultaneously. My in-between exists in the realm of the absurd, the pleasure of creating spaces for play and joy. I explore what a chair and interior objects would look like in a house in the in-between.
